Guide for District Unit Leaders

I.  Introduction

A. Philosophy and purpose of the Spirit of George Washington Encampment at Mount Vernon.
The Spirit of George Washington Encampment at Mount Vernon (hereafter often referred to as the Mount Vernon Encampment or MVE) is being conducted to give youth and adult members of National Capital Area Scouting units a special opportunity to learn more about and to honor George Washington on the 200th anniversary of his death. The encampment constitutes the first time that Scouts have been able to camp on the estate grounds. The encampment also provides special program opportunities associated with Mount Vernon's annual "Salute to George Washington" day for Scouts.
B. Organizers.
The Mount Vernon Encampment is being conducted through a partnership of the National Capital Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America and the Mount Vernon Ladies Association, the non-profit organization that has managed George Washington's estate for more than 150 years.
